Tinubu Demands Justice over Unfair Treatment of Super Eagles
Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has advised the disciplinary panel of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to do a thorough finding into the cruel treatment suffered by the Super Eagles team at Libyan airport.
He said that the CAF should take proper action against those who intentionally breached its statutes and rules.
Tinubu made the disclosure in a press release by his Special Adviser, Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Monday, October 14, 2024, in Abuja.
The President, who welcomed the safe return of the Super Eagles team, criticised their horrifying experience, which caused the removal of the team from a planned match today.
The Nigerian leader lauded the collaborative efforts of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Sports Development in handling the unfortunate episode and ensuring the safe return of the players.
He commended the players for staying positive despite the agonising ordeal in Libya.
President Tinubu acknowledges football’s unique ability to bring nations and people together and considers the treatment of Nigerian citizens as unacceptable and cruel, a stark contrast to the spirit of the game he deeply appreciates.
He passionately calls on all lovers of the round-leather game and administrators to unite and work jointly to avoid and overcome such incidents in the future.
