Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has authorised the instant rebuilding of the Wagga Bridge linking Adamawa and Borno. This was revealed by the Director-General, North East Development Commission, Mohammed Goni at an examination of the fallen bridge in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa on Sunday.
He opined that during the first examination, an evaluation was conducted for the work, but now the bridge has totally fallen.
"We visited this place around two months ago when the first incident occurred, and we vowed to fix up the problem, but sadly, before actions could start, this is the situation".
The damage has occurred approximately three times so far. The positive aspect of the situation is that President Bola Tinubu has authorised the immediate reconstruction of the road to alleviate the difficulties people encounter while travelling.
Goni said the work might not begin right away because of the rainfall, but alternative arrangements will be made to facilitate the movement of vehicles on the road.
"As you can see, people travelling from Maiduguri have to stop here. Since we are here, we will see what we can do to help them," he said.
Goni further promised the people the reconstruction of other damaged culverts beside the road.
Malam Mohammed Saidu, a resident, told journalists that the collapse was a result of heavy down pour on Thursday afternoon.
He said that they were facing a lot of problems due to the incident, including inability to go to markets in Goza, Borno, and the same people from Borno not finding it easy to cross over.
He asked the federal and state governments to come to their aid instantly.
He added that those cultivating in the axis may also encounter difficulty in crossing, especially when harvest starts.
