President Tinubu has authorized the release of funds to address pension arrears, salary increases, and other entitlements owed to retired military personnel, following two days of peaceful protests at the Federal Ministry of Finance by military veterans.
Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, announced this development on Friday, expressing appreciation for the President's prompt action.
He highlighted that Tinubu's intervention ensures timely payment of a three-month salary increase and the necessary funds for settling pension arrears and other dues owed to retired military personnel.
In a statement from the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Henshaw Ogubike, it was confirmed that military personnel have already received payment alerts regarding the salary increases.
Matawalle commended President Tinubu for his dedication to the welfare of both active and retired military members, emphasizing the administration's commitment to resolving outstanding pension issues to improve living standards for those who served the nation.
The Minister also recognized the efforts of Mr. Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, for his role in facilitating the successful disbursement of these funds.
He urged the Nigerian military to remain committed to their duties, assuring them of the President’s determination to enhance morale and provide necessary support in addressing national security challenges.
"Despite initial setbacks, be assured that Mr. President is committed to uplifting our military forces as they confront insecurity," Matawalle stated.
