Security operatives in Osun State have apprehended some foreigners as part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts. The arrests followed a raid by the Department of State Services (DSS) on parts of Ijesaland, where suspected members of terror groups were reportedly undergoing training.
Acting on intelligence, security personnel conducted operations across several locations in the state, targeting illegal immigrants. Many of the individuals detained lacked valid residential permits and could not provide satisfactory explanations for their presence in the state.
A senior security official, speaking anonymously, stated, “For security reasons and to avoid raising undue alarm, the locations of the arrests will not be disclosed. However, the Osun State Government has been duly informed.”
The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, confirmed the arrest of over 100 foreigners. He assured residents that the government and security agencies are taking proactive steps to maintain safety.
“In Osun, we have always been proactive, which led to the arrest of suspected terrorists in Ilesa. Weeks ago, we also arrested 100 foreigners. The governor, along with our Service Chiefs, is fully committed to ensuring the security of our people,” Alimi said.
He added that the Amotekun Security outfit is being restructured to enhance its effectiveness in safeguarding the state.
Residents have been urged to remain calm as the government continues its efforts to combat security threats in Osun.
