The demand for creation of more states echoes across Nigeria. In the South-East, supporters of the ANIM State are relentlessly campaigning for its establishment to achieve parity with other geo-political zones of the country.

This was because the stakeholders have refused not to abandon their pursuit without relenting.

Efforts to create ANIM State was made possible by its strong economic potential and widespread public support.

The stakeholders maintained their proposal to create a new state in the South-East because they thought it would make things fair by giving all geo-political zones in the country the same number of states.

Chief Peter Mgbenwelu, deputy chairman of the ANIM State Creation Movement and the oldest serving lawyer in Imo State, noted that they looked closely at the national calls for new states and they decided to keep pushing for ANIM because they believe it would be a strong state economically and would help make sure each geo-political zone has a similar number of states.

People present at the stakeholders’ meeting were the chairman of the movement, Architect Ignatius Ifeanyi; the deputy chairman and the Cock of Imo Bar, Mgbenwelu; the Secretary, Osita Nwaneri; and the deputy secretary, Bath Awugosi.

Others include, Hon. Mrs Callista Nwachukwu, Chief Maxwell Ujubuonu, his Royal Highness, Eze John Nwosu, and Chief Green Iheka, among others.

Mgbewelu informed newsmen after the meeting that the ANIM State creation movement has been in existence for about six years, stating that the economic viability and desirability of the proposed state were second to none.
