In a statement revealed on Monday by the director, Army Public Relation, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a gunrunning syndicate and thwarted a kidnap attempt in Taraba and Benue states.
A portion of the statement reads, "In Taraba State, troops, working with vigilantes, acted on a tip-off to catch Mansir Mohammed at Jalingo Motor Park. He's been allegedly dealing in guns with terrorists."
"His arrest led to nabbing other gang members and seizing one Semi Automatic Pump Action gun, one handmade gun, a Peugeot car, five mobile phones, and N45,000."
Furthermore, soldiers on regular patrol intercepted two suspected terrorists at Miyande Village in Takum Local Government Area. They had hidden an automatic rifle under the motorbike seat they were riding. One AK-47 rifle, five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a motorbike were seized.
In Benue State, soldiers answered a distress call about a kidnapping attempt, resulting in one kidnapper being killed during the rescue and the retrieval of a Beretta pistol with four rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
Earlier in April, it was reported how Nigerian Army troops foiled an attempt by terrorists to kidnap Christians returning from a church event in Taraba State.
