Six Jailed For Internet Fraud in Kwara

After reviewing the facts and the defendants' admissions, the justices found them guilty and sentenced them to varying prison terms.

The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) achieved convictions for six individuals charged with cybercrime and fraud-related offenses on Monday. 

Prosecuted separately, the convicts appeared before Justice Evelyn Anyadike of the Federal High Court and Justice Adebayo Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin. 

Among those convicted were Aransiola Stephen, Owoeye Ezekiel, Idris Kayode, Abdulrahmon Abubakar, Rafiu Adisa, and Raheem Monsur.

In a statement released by EFCC's Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, it was disclosed that these convictions brought the total to 24 out of 50 suspects, including 48 students of Kwara State University and two Malete residents. 

They were apprehended during a sting operation conducted by EFCC operatives on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, for various Internet fraud offenses.

Upon pleading guilty, the prosecutors, Innocent Mbachie, Adebayo Aliyu, Charles Oni, and Rasheedat Alao, presented the case facts and submitted the defendants' statements and recovered items as evidence. 

After reviewing the facts and the defendants' admissions, the justices found them guilty and sentenced them to varying prison terms. 

Additionally, the courts ordered the forfeiture of the phones, laptops used in the commission of the crimes, and the restitution of money to the Federal Government.
