Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has suspended his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Wale Ajetunmobi, following a misrepresentation of facts on his personal X account.
The suspension was announced in a statement on Tuesday by Gboyega Akosile, the governor's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
The statement, titled "Governor Sanwo-Olu suspends aide," indicated that Ajetunmobi's actions were inconsistent with the administration's stance on public issues.
Akosile emphasized that the Sanwo-Olu-led government does not condone any form of extra-judicial punishment, stating, "That is not who we are. That is not our way."
Ajetunmobi's suspension comes in the wake of a controversial tweet in which he claimed that arsonists responsible for burning down the Television Continental (TVC) station during the 2020 #EndSARS protests had been "hunted down and executed."
He specifically mentioned a young boy from Ketu who was allegedly found with an AK-47 rifle.
While the tweet has since been deleted, it sparked significant backlash and raised concerns about extra-judicial killings.
In a response to criticism, Ajetunmobi later clarified that the term "executed" was used erroneously and insisted that his comments reflected his personal opinion, not that of the government.
