The Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, is reported to have sold two training helicopters for N1.2 billion. This is the subject of an investigation by the House of Representatives committee on public assets.
The committee said it was made aware of the situation by media reports on the alleged sale of two Bell 206L-3 helicopters, which were public assets bought by the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, for the purpose of training pilots. The statement was released to the press on Monday and was signed by the committee's chairman, Hon. Ademorin Kuye.
According to Kuye, the sale of the helicopters in March 2023 under the pretense of underutilization by College of Aviation authorities has now turned into a sign of the alarming trend of asset stripping in various sectors and MDAs toward the end of the last administration.
The hurry of the sales and concessions of public assets during the final months of the previous administration, he continued, raises questions because it is assumed that the administration gave its permission.
The aviation committee chairman added: “ It is only right that the new regime is allowed to be part of the completion of the sale process if there are no hidden agendas.
“Therefore, the House Committee on Public Assets as constituted will investigate the sale of these important training national assets to ensure that due process is followed and that the country is not shortchanged in this deal.”
