The House of Representatives has started findings into bribery accusations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).

The allegations made by social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, famously known as VeryDarkMan, asserted that the EFCC dropped financial crime charges against Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, after collecting N15,000,000.

Rep Patrick Umoh, who represents Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom State, proposed a motion in the House of Representatives on Thursday. Expressing concern over the damaging accusations.

He affirmed that Nigeria has a bad reputation for corruption and that something needs to be done swiftly.

Umoh spoke to the other representatives about a report by VeryDarkMan that accused the EFCC and NCS of wrongdoing.

Addressing his colleagues, Umoh expressed concern over the trending publication by VeryDarkMan against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigerian Correctional Service.

“The publication asserted that Idris Okuneye, upon conviction for abuse and defacing Nigerian currency by the court, did not serve his sentence in prison but was lodged outside the confines of the service.

''We are deeply concerned about the serious accusations made against Niferoan critical law enforcement agencies—the EFCC and NCS. These agencies were set up by this respected body to fight crime and punish people who have been found guilty of crimes.'' he said

He also stated that the negative image and representation of Nigeria as a deceitful nation in the publication should not be swept under the carpet.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who led the plenary session, referred it to the Committee on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions.

The findings will be carried out by the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions, with a report due within three legislative weeks.
