Reps Invite EFCC Chairman, VDM, Bobrisky Over Bribery Allegations
The House of Representatives has called on the EFCC chairman, the Nigerian Correctional Service Comptroller General, Bobrisky, and VeryDarkMan, as well as all officials involved in Bobrisky's case, to appear before them. This was revealed in a written letter by the Lead Chairman of the joint committee, Jon Ginger Onwusibe, to parties on Friday over the shocking accusations of fraud against the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Correctional Services (NCS).
The following persons were also invited: ACG Ben Rabbi Freedman, the Controller of Corrections Lagos Command as of then; Ja'afaru Ahmed, the secretary of the board; Michael Anugwa, DCC in charge of medium security; Sikiru Adekunle, DCC in charge of maximum security; Bobrisky, and VeryDarkMan.
Background:
In April 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, in six counts of financial crime in Naira abuse.
During his hearing at the Federal High Court in Lagos, Justice Abimbola Awogboro dismissed the financial crime allegations (counts five and six) but convicted the social media personality to six months in prison for Naira mutilation.
Similarly, a little over a month after his release, Martins Vincent Otse, famously known as VeryDarkMan, shared a secret voice recording on Instagram in which Bobrisky recounted the events that occurred during his prison term.
In the voice recording, bobrisky can be heard conversing with a friend about how EFCC personnel reportedly extorted N15 million from him to drop the financial crime charges.
VeryDarkMan said that he shared the voice recording after Bobrisky declined to repay N4 million obtained from one of the people he contacted to raise the N15 million.
The Minister of Interior in a press release made available to journalists on Tuesday night, ordered an investigation into the bribery accusations. The head of the EFCC also directed Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan to report to the EFCC’s Lagos office to help in the inquiry.
