Asari Dokubo, a prominent figure in the Niger Delta, has urged President Bola Tinubu to defer from releasing Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a group that is officially illegal.

After meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday, Dokubo revealed this while speaking to the media.

Kanu should face the law, according to a Niger Delta leader who pointed out that releasing him would be rewarding criminal behavior and the horrible slaughter of unarmed civilians.

Remember that since his 2021 re-arrest, Kanu has been held by the Department of State Services (DSS) while he is on trial for terrorism.

He had been granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja in 2017, but he disregarded the terms of the release and left the country. He was subsequently detained again.

In spite of pleas for Kanu's release, former President Muhammadu Buhari has resisted pressure to do so before the inauguration of a new administration.

Dokubo said in reference to Kanu's imprisonment,

“Releasing Nnamdi Kanu is rewarding criminality and rewarding gruesome murder of innocent people,” he said at the. “He should face the law for the actions and instigations he has carried out.

“On security, I want to clearly say that there are full-scale wars going on in different parts of this country. In the South East, the IPOB/ESN is waging a full-scale war against the government of this country and many local governments, many communities are deserted, schools are closed, and hospitals are closed,” he added.
