The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has claimed that the power supply situation in Nigeria has gotten better due to the reforms introduced by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration.
A statement made available by the ministry on Wednesday noted that progress has been made in the power sector since President Tinubu took office. Adelabu made this statement during the first meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Power Sector Working Group set up by the President aimed at improving the power industry. It was gathered that the group will focus on financial problems within the power sector and provide guidance to electricity distribution companies, DisCos.
The minister expressed gratitude for the president's unwavering support of the power ministry. He stressed that the President has fulfilled his promise to assist in revitalising the sector. "The recent improvements in the power sector are directly attributed to the President's backing and encouragement of the ministry’s initiatives. And we are grateful for all the support".
"Just a few days ago, July 27 precisely, we successfully generated and transmitted 5,105 megawatts of power, the highest level in the past three years. The capacity before now had always fluctuated around 4000 megawatts or below. But within a year of taking over, we have had about a 25% increase in power generation".
The minister stated that the power sector is making progress towards the president's goal of generating and transmitting 6,000 megawatts of electricity by the end of December. Adelabu explained that the newly formed ministerial working group was established to ensure this target is met and to address challenges within the power sector.
