A police officer assigned to the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) enforcement team was reportedly shot and killed in Terminus Market in Jos, Plateau State's capital.

According to our source, the state government had recently deployed security personnel, including police officers and military, to enforce against street trading in the area. The Security personnel were stationed outside Terminus Market to ensure strict compliance with the law.

One Ibrahim Musa told our correspondent that the police officer was hit by a stray bullet fired by one of the security personnel monitoring the area. He said, "Around 12 p.m. on Wednesday, security personnel were pursuing traders when an officer accidentally shot the policeman in the neck, and he died instantly."

The incident was further confirmed by a market official who asked to remain anonymous claiming that the officer's death was an accident caused by one of his colleagues. He said that because of the situation, there was tension in the area and tear gas canisters were fired to disperse the crowd.

When contacted, DSP Alabo Alfred, spokesperson for the state police command, stated that the police were investigating the matter.
