The Kaduna State Police Command has announced a ban on all unlawful gatherings, particularly those organized by the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), including their planned Ashura procession.

ASP Mansir Hassan, the command's spokesperson, stated that the ban comes in response to intelligence indicating that the IMN, also known as Shiites, intend to hold a procession to mark the 2024 Islamic Ashura Day ceremony. He emphasized that the command has prohibited any form of illegal protest in the state.

Hassan cited past incidents where the Ashura ritual practice has been characterized by violence, leading to property destruction, injuries, and even loss of lives. He warned the sect members, who were previously proscribed by law, to abandon the procession idea.

The police command assured that it will not hesitate to enforce the law against any person or group, particularly the outlawed IMN members, who defy the ban.

Commissioner of Police Ali Dabigi called on all law-abiding citizens to go about their lawful activities without fear, stressing that the relative peace in the state will not be compromised by the selfish actions of a few.
