Following a gunfight near the border between Bauchi and Plateau states, police officers working with hunters in Bauchi State were able to neutralize about eight suspected kidnappers.

Three kidnap victims who had been held captive by the abductors for ransom were also freed by the police during the operation.

This was revealed to the media in Bauchi on Thursday by SP Ahmed Wakil, the spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command.

During their usual patrol, the detectives from Gumau, Tilde, and Tulu Divisions came across armed bandits. They resorted to self-defense and engaged in a gunfight, which led to the neutralisation of four (4) suspected kidnappers.

In the final moments before their deaths, two of the suspects admitted to a number of kidnapping cases in Bauchi and the Plateau state, including the horrific murder of a village chief in Ruruwai village, Lame district, Toro LGA.

A police official claimed in a statement that, four (4) kidnappers were also neutralised in a subsequent gunfight with the remaining accomplices guarding the hostages, and the three (3) captives were safely rescued without any ransom paid.

To prevent security breaches, which typically result in various forms of destruction to people's lives and property, SP Wakil urged the people living in Bauchi areas to work with the police by providing reliable intelligence information.
