The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Police has initiated a search operation for the abductors of three individuals kidnapped at various locations in the state on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

Reports indicate that at least three people were kidnapped in separate incidents. A widely circulated video on social media captures one kidnapping on the Ifite-Amansea-Awka Road near Nnamdi Azikiwe University's second gate in Awka North LGA on Saturday afternoon. Another incident occurred on the Agulu-Oraukwu Road in Anaocha LGA the same evening.

The video shows armed attackers forcing two unidentified persons out of a sports utility vehicle and into another car. Eyewitnesses stated that the kidnappers fired guns into the air before speeding away, leaving the victims' vehicle behind.

A separate incident involved the abduction of a petrol station owner and the killing of his young attendant. The victim was followed and taken while driving home, with the kidnappers abandoning his Lexus 350 SUV at the scene.

In response, Anambra State Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that the police have reviewed the videos and recovered the abandoned vehicles. The search for the kidnappers and efforts to rescue the victims are ongoing.
