The police officers who were shown in a viral video beating an Okada rider in Lagos have been apprehended, according to the Nigerian Police Force.
This was confirmed by the Force's spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on May 17, 2023 at a Twitter Space webinar run by Premium Times.
The Okada guy, known as Al-Hassan Usman, was allegedly brutalized by three police officers in the Abule Egba neighborhood of the Agbado-Oke-Odo LCDA of the Alimosho LGA
One of the officers was seen striking the victim with his baton while another pulled him away violently and repeatedly.
As he clutched on to his bleeding forehead, the man who attempted to seize his bike from the officers suffered a serious injury.
The two other officers fled the scene right away on a tricycle, but the third cop rode off on the victim's bicycle.
Reports state that the event took place four days ago. However, specifics of what caused the tragedy have not been established.
"I'm stating it right now, they have been detained. During the webinar, he stated, "I received the footage of the Abule Egba event on my WhatsApp from the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, and when he brings me information like that, I know what it signifies.
He said that Idowu Owohunwa, the commissioner of police for the state of Lagos, had already detained the guys without even waiting for orders, claiming that the CP was a skilled officer who knew what to do.
"We are efficient when our males behave badly," Adejobi continued.
He asserted that the Lagos police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, should have released their photographs to the public to confirm the arrest of the cops, and he expressed confidence that Hundeyin will do so shortly.
