Police in Katsina stopped an attack on Sabuwa town, the headquarter of the Sabuwa local government area, and neutralised one suspected bandit.

ASP Abubakar Aliyu, the police spokesman, confirmed that on April 17, 2024, at approximately 5 p.m., information was obtained that some suspected bandits, armed with dangerous weapons such as AK-47 rifles and riding motorcycles, were approaching Sabuwa town with the aim to attack.

He stated that after receiving the complaint, DPO Sabuwa assembled a group of operatives, including members of the Community Watch Corps and Operation Sharan Daji, and they responded to the scene.

They got into a fierce gunfight with the alleged bandits, and the anticipated attack was successfully thwarted by the team. However, a Community Watch Corps member was shot in the right leg and was brought to the hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The PPRO disclosed that during the process of examining the area, the corpse of one suspected bandit was found. He also mentioned that a hand grenade and a walkie-talkie had been found at the scene.

Aliyu reported that Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, the Commissioner of Police, had urged the public to report anyone spotted with a bullet wound as soon as possible, since some of the suspects had managed to flee with gunshot wounds.

He also encouraged citizens to keep on giving crucial information regarding criminal activity in their local communities.

The commissioner reaffirmed the command's dedication to guaranteeing the safety of citizens' lives and property.
