The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old man named Suleiman Yakubu for allegedly inciting violence in a viral TikTok video related to the planned nationwide protest against hardship.
In the video, Yakubu called on residents of Plateau State to attack security operatives and burn down critical state and private infrastructures as part of the protest activities. The police stated that the video aimed to stimulate violence and plunge the state into chaos.
Following the release of the inciting video, the Plateau State Police Command activated its strategic resources to identify and apprehend the individual behind it.
Yakubu was arrested on July 28, 2024, around 11:30 AM at Ahmadu Bello Way, Jos, through an informant. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being the one in the viral video.
The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, has assured residents that the police will intensely resist any attempt by mischief makers to threaten peace and security in the state.
He urged the public to be law-abiding and refrain from making inciting comments that could jeopardize the state's peace and security.
The police have advised residents to report any suspicious activities or officer misconduct to the command and an investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
