Police Confirm Abduction of Islamic Cleric in Kogi

It was gathered that Sheikh Quasim Musa was kidnapped on Monday night outside his house in Ilukpa, Iyara, headquarters of the Ijumu Local Government Area.

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Sheikh Quasim Musa, Chief Imam of Iyara, in Ijumu Local Government Area, by some unidentified gunmen.

According to reports by newsmen, the Islamic cleric was abducted on Monday night outside his house in Ilukpa, Iyara, headquarters of the Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

A source in the community disclosed that the gunmen, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, came in commando style, and began shooting randomly before taking their victim who was asleep outside his house to an unknown destination.

Also, a family source who spoke to journalists under the condition of anonymity affirmed that they have yet to get any information from the abductors.

According to the source, "this devilish act is cowardice and regrettable, happening to a religious leader in this holy month of Ramadan. We use this medium to urge the relevant authorities to ensure he is freed.

Confirming the news, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, affirmed, “The Kogi State Police Commissioner has deployed a tactical team, the Police Mobile Force (PMF), a quick response unit, and the Divisional Police, together with the local vigilantes and other security agencies, to make sure that the cleric is rescued unhurt.”
