The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has issued a warning against the use of firecrackers, commonly referred to as knockouts, during the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.
In a statement released by SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer, the command emphasized that this ban is aimed at ensuring the safety of residents and protecting lives and property throughout the festive season.
Police Commissioner Olatunji Disu highlighted that firecrackers can cause unnecessary panic and anxiety within communities.
He further noted that these items pose significant risks, including fire hazards and other preventable incidents. The police have made it clear that violators, including both sellers and users of firecrackers and fireworks, will face arrest and prosecution under the law.
Community leaders and residents are encouraged to raise awareness about the dangers associated with these items. The police urge vigilance among residents, asking them to report any suspicious activities or violations of this directive using designated emergency numbers.
The FCT Police Command remains committed to maintaining law and order during this festive period, urging everyone to celebrate responsibly while wishing all a peaceful and joyful Christmas and New Year.
