Police Apprehends 83 Crime Suspects in Enugu

The Nigeria Police, Enugu State command has announced that its operatives apprehended 83 criminal suspects and rescued 20 abducted victims within the state from January 1, 2024, till date.

The suspects were apprehended for the following offenses; kidnapping, murder, defilement, armed robbery, vandalism, and other crimes committed within the state in the period under review.

Enugu State Police Commissioner, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, revealed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists on the achievements of the command since the beginning of the year.

Uzuegbu affirmed that 46 firearms of different calibers were recovered, including 125 ammunition of different calibers, within the period under review.

He equally noted that some items which include; six tricycles; 36 motor vehicles and 15 motorcycles were recovered by gallant and eagle-eyed crime-fighting officers and operatives of the command. 

According to CP Uzuegbu, most of the apprehended suspects had been arraigned in court and remanded in prison while others would be charged accordingly once investigations are concluded.

He emphasized that the energetic and people-centered policing approaches of the command had started yielding the expected results.

The state police commissioner said, “I wish to particularly appreciate The Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for the immense support his government has continued to offer to the police in the state.

In a similar way, I sincerely thank and applaud the Inspector-General of Police, IGP,  Kayode Egbetokun, for his insightful and pragmatic leadership style, which has brought about the policing strides recorded in Enugu State and Nigeria as a whole.

Consequently, I express my enormous gratitude to my colleagues and the whole security stakeholders in Enugu State for all the team support we enjoyed in 2023, which has continued into 2024.

I equally want to thank and appreciate my officers and men for their consciousness, hard work, and commitment to duty, which have ensued in the operational successes recorded. I urge them to remain focused and committed to actualizing the mandates of the Nigeria Police Force in Enugu State.

Also, CP Uzuegbu stressed that discipline remained the bedrock of the Nigeria Police, adding, “I urge officers and men to shun acts of corruption, unethical, and moral debasement, which bring with them severe disciplinary consequences.”
