The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the spokesman of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kenneth Udo, has announced a significant increase in passport fees, set to take effect on September 1, 2024.
According to the NIS, the fee adjustments are part of an initiative to enhance the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport.
The new fees will see the cost of a 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity rise from N35,000 to N50,000, while the 64-page booklet with a ten-year validity will increase from N70,000 to N100,000.
The NIS expressed regret over any inconvenience this increase may cause to applicants but reassured the public of its commitment to transparency and quality service delivery.
This fee hike comes in the context of Nigeria's recent ranking in the Henley Passport Index, where it was positioned 92nd out of 199 countries which reflect ongoing challenges related to international travel accessibility for Nigerian citizens.
