Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has signed a bill approving a new logo for the state, stating that it signifies a fresh start for Osun.
The spokesperson to the governor, Olawale Rasheed, on Wednesday, confirmed the event in Osogbo which was witnessed by the Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun.
Rasheed explained the elements of the new logo. The circle, replacing the shield, symbolizes perfection and unity of Osun's three Senatorial districts. The Osun River, depicted with a waterfall, symbolizes the state's fertility and life source. Brown agricultural soil and mountains represent fertility, tourism, and strength. Ori Olokun symbolizes the common origin of the Yoruba race, while rays of light represent enlightenment and progress, and the Cocoa leaves, fruits, and beans symbolize agriculture and natural resources.
Adeleke expressed joy in signing the new logo, emphasizing its representation of Osun's history and values. He highlighted its educational value for the younger generation and its potential for marketing the state.
The repeal of the State Anthem, Crest, and Flag Law 2012 by the Osun State House of Assembly in July 2023 preceded the adoption of the new logo.
