The Osun State Government has commenced the receipt of 43 trucks of food palliatives consisting of garri and corn from the Federal Government of Nigeria. This initiative aims to mitigate the current hardships faced by Nigerians across the country.

Of the total 43 trucks expected, 4 are filled with 25kg bags of garri, with each truck containing 1,260 bags. Additionally, there are 39 trucks carrying 50kg bags of corn, each truck containing 600 bags.

The Osun State Government is being charged ₦67,422,000 (Sixty-Seven Million, Four Hundred and Twenty-Two Thousand Naira) by the Federal Government as a haulage fee. Out of this amount, the State Government has paid ₦45,000,000 (Forty-Five Million Naira), leaving a balance of ₦22,422,000 (Twenty-Two Million, Four Hundred and Twenty-Two Thousand Naira) to be paid before the remaining consignments can be delivered.

The current food palliatives, consisting of garri and corn, were coordinated by the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and distributed by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Abuja. They are being received by the Osun State Government through the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA).

For transparency, record-keeping, and accountability, officials from the Nigeria Police, ICPC, DSS, EFCC, and NEMA are on the ground to monitor the offloading and documentation of the consignments.

The distribution of the food palliatives to the beneficiaries across the state was scheduled to commence today, Tuesday, 30th July 2024. This distribution will follow a predetermined template provided by the Federal Government and aligned with the one mapped out by the Osun State Government.
