Residents of Olodo village in Awosun, Ile-Ife, are currently in distress as land grabbers threaten their homes and livelihoods under the guise of road construction. The community allege that these actions are on behalf of the Ooni of Ife, sparking fears of massive property loss.

The conflict started when people claiming to be preparing for road construction arrived in Olodo village, which the residents at first hailed as a sign of good things to come. However, excitement changed to sadness as it became clear that the road extension would destroy countless homes, contrary to previous assurances.

The situation escalated when the alleged road workers, some of whom claimed to be operating on behalf of the Ooni of Ife, refused to stop despite community protests. The community's resistance caused a temporary pause in the construction activities, but the possibility of demolition remains high, with threats of bulldozers approaching soon.

In response, the community has reached out to Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, for help, highlighting the devastating effect that the proposed road will have on their homes and properties. Attempts to reach the Ooni's palace for comment were initially unsuccessful. However, a palace source later stated that he was unaware of the planned demolitions, implying that more investigation is needed.

The community is optimistic about a favorable conclusion that would safeguard their houses and assets from unnecessary destruction.

The predicament of the Olodo community exposes wider concerns of land rights and development disputes in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for open approaches and true community participation in development initiatives. As the scenario develops, the community's determination to safeguard their houses serves as a reminder of the difficulties many people encounter in the face of urban expansion and development demands.
