The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally disowned former governor Rauf Aregbesola, citing various anti-party activities. The announcement was made by the party chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, in a communiqué following a stakeholders' meeting at the state secretariat in Osogbo on Tuesday.

Lawal accused Aregbesola, who also served as the Minister of Interior, of forming groups that work against the interests of the APC.

Echoing Lawal's sentiments, state APC secretary Kamoru Alao discouraged loyal party members from joining Aregbesola’s group, Omoluabi Progressives, as it is not affiliated with the Osun APC. Alao also announced that the party’s electronic membership registration would commence following the inauguration of a training committee by National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.

“As far as we are concerned in Osun APC, Aregbesola is no longer a member of our party,” Alao declared. “We have notified the national secretariat of the distractions caused by Aregbesola and expect them to take appropriate action.”

However, the Publicity Secretary of Omoluabi Progressives, Abosede Oluwaseun, dismissed the allegations against Aregbesola. Oluwaseun argued that the party's structure remained intact when Aregbesola left office, but has deteriorated since. He also noted that attempts to suspend Aregbesola at his ward in Ilesa East Local Government Area had failed twice.

“We are not distracted and are committed to repositioning the APC to reclaim the state from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2026,” Oluwaseun stated.
