The Osun State Government has officially embraced the 2014 National Policy on Food Safety and Implementation Strategy, aimed at safeguarding residents from consuming contaminated food.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by Commissioner for Health, Jola Akintola, highlighted the necessity of the policy during its official launch.
He stressed that food safety is crucial for preventing illnesses, and it's the government's duty to protect citizens.
Dr. Akindele Adekunle, Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, emphasized the need for collaboration with organizations like WHO, UNICEF, NCDC, and NAFDAC for effective policy implementation.
Dr. Isiaka Adekunle, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, underscored the importance of consuming safe food for immunity, citing the risks of organ failure and death that can result from eating unsafe food.
The adoption of this policy aligns with resolutions from the 58th meeting of the National Council on Health in 2016.
