Ondo Gov’t Initiates Rural Road Construction Project

The first phase of construction will span the three senatorial districts of the state, connecting rural communities with urban areas to facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce

The Ondo State Government has commenced the construction of roads in rural areas across the state's three senatorial districts under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).

The project, launched on Friday by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, aims to facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce to urban centers and is budgeted at N1.2 billion.

Speaking during the project launch at Oda Community in Akure South Local Government Area, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the government's commitment to rural community development. The initial phase of the project will involve constructing a 15.5km road spanning Oda Cocoa Board to Camp 2 to Lagbido in the local government.

Governor Aiyedatiwa stated, "From the inception of our administration, we made deliberate efforts to put in place several life-changing programs and projects geared towards improving the livelihood and living standard of our teeming farming population."

He assured continued investment in rural development for the benefit of the people of Ondo State.

Engr. Femi Adetanmi, the state project coordinator of RAAMP, disclosed that the project is estimated to cost N1.2 billion and is slated for completion within 18 months. He highlighted the significance of the roads in facilitating the transportation of agricultural produce and reducing food scarcity.

Adetanmi emphasized RAAMP's objective of enhancing access to rural communities and improving agricultural marketing through value addition and post-harvest loss reduction, underscoring the necessity of road construction.

He urged farmers to capitalize on the improved infrastructure to ensure sufficient supply of farm products to markets and eliminate food scarcity exacerbated by poor road networks in rural areas.

The first phase of construction will span the three senatorial districts of the state, connecting rural communities with urban areas to facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce. All construction work is set to commence simultaneously.
