The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has expressed sorrow over the death of its President General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

They held a meeting on Tuesday at the national headquarters and opened a condolence register for him. The group announced that Iwuanyanwu, would be buried on September 25, 2024.

Upon completion of the meeting, Secretary General of the Igbo apex socio-cultural body, Ambassador Okey Emuchay, who chaired the meeting, led other members of the executive committee to sign the condolence register.

As Emuchay signed the condolence register, he expressed sorrow over Iwuanyanwu's untimely passing. He described Iwuanyanwu as a wonderful diplomat, a committed patriot, an extraordinary leader, a skilled politician, and an erudite engineer.

Emuchay pledged that Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide would carry on Iwuanyanwu's legacy and that consultation with the Imeobi council was underway.

Absolutely, a huge Iroko has fallen. This happened in less than two years after we lost our former President General, Ambassador Professor George Obiozor. We had tributes from all over, from the President of Nigeria, former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, Emeka Anyaoku, governors of the South East, and our associates in the southern and middle belt forum, EK Clark, Bayo Adebanjo, and others. Nigerians worldwide have been calling to condole with us.

Our thoughts are with his wife and children, as well as the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, the government and people of Imo State, and all who knew him. We are in communication with the family and will soon establish a committee to plan the funeral.

All programs, specifically the Igbo Day Celebration of 2024, originally planned to hold on the 29th of September 2024, that was to be hosted by Imo State, we will postpone in respect and honour of our departed president general.
