Niyi Ijalaye, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ogun State, reportedly collapsed in Abuja on Monday evening. Sources revealed that Ijalaye had just returned to his hotel room at the Bon Octagon Hotel after attending a meeting at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters when the incident occurred.
Despite appearing in good spirits during the meeting, chaired by INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Ijalaye unexpectedly collapsed in his hotel room. The meeting was focused on the upcoming off-cycle elections in Edo and Ondo States.
At the time of this report, Ijalaye's condition remains unclear.
Ijalaye, originally from Ondo State, was appointed as Ogun State's REC in March 2022 after his predecessor, Olusegun Agbaje, was transferred to Lagos State.
