Brigadier General Yusha'u Ahmed, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has urged corps members to abandon any thoughts of returning to their home communities, emphasizing that their lives and opportunities extend far beyond those familiar surroundings.
Speaking during his visit to the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Kaduna on Friday, Ahmed addressed the 2024 Batch ‘C stream ‘I’ corps members, encouraging them to embrace their new environments and create a sense of belonging wherever they are posted.
Ahmed highlighted the importance of adapting to new experiences as a pathway to personal growth and development.
He stressed that corps members should focus on making a positive impact in their host communities, advising them to actively seek opportunities for contribution and to respect local cultures and traditions.
"Remain peaceful and resilient as you add value to the community you are posted to," he stated, reinforcing the idea that many may choose to stay in these communities after their service.
Addressing safety concerns, Ahmed reminded corps members that while their security is a priority for the NYSC, individual responsibility is paramount.
He cautioned against unauthorized night travels and underscored the importance of skills acquisition and entrepreneurship, urging corps members to utilize available programs to become self-reliant and productive.
"The Federal Government is committed to empowering youth," he noted, encouraging them to take full advantage of these opportunities for personal and financial independence.
