Rev. Yakubu Pam, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the North, has expressed that Christians in northern Nigeria are experiencing an improved quality of life under President Bola Tinubu's administration.
He noted a significant reduction in the persecution of Christians since Tinubu took office in 2023.
During an appearance on Arise TV’s The Morning Show, Pam acknowledged that while challenges remain, the overall situation for Christians has improved.
He highlighted that discrimination regarding land acquisition for church construction has lessened, and incidents of forced conversions and marriages of young Christian girls have decreased.
Pam stated, “There’s still persecution of Christians going on. It is relevantly better under this administration, but it is still ongoing. I am not saying it has stopped, but it’s very much better.” He reiterated his concerns about historical issues faced by Christians in the region during a press conference in Kaduna.
Despite his previous reservations about Tinubu's Muslim-Muslim ticket, Pam praised the president for showing a commitment to inclusive governance.
He emphasized the importance of representation for Christians in key positions, advocating for a Christian vice president in 2027 should there be a change from the current administration.
