Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has returned to the NLC headquarters in Abuja after responding to a police summons.

Ajaero visited the police station in response to allegations of treason and terrorism financing. He arrived at approximately 10:17 AM on August 29, 2024, accompanied by lawyer Femi Falana and other senior NLC officials.

The police had previously conducted a raid on the NLC national secretariat, stating that the operation aimed to uncover materials related to the recent "End Bad Governance In Nigeria" protests.

Following the police's invitation, the NLC issued a warning of a potential nationwide strike should Ajaero face arrest. Several unions, including the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), have already indicated plans to mobilize their members for a strike.

Upon his return, Ajaero expressed a commitment to continue advocating for workers' rights, asserting that the NLC would not be intimidated by external pressures.
