Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has reaffirmed the country’s dedication to strengthening diplomatic ties with the United Kingdom.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday during his three-day high-level visit to the UK from March 3 to 5, Tuggar emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to fostering strategic cooperation across key sectors, including trade, investment, technology, media, and academia.

In a statement issued by Kimiebi Ebienfa, the acting spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tuggar highlighted that the visit reflects Nigeria’s proactive engagement with global partners to drive economic growth, innovation, and sustainable development.

He described the trip as a significant moment in Nigeria’s foreign policy under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, aligning with its focus on economic diplomacy, strategic partnerships, and regional security.

Tuggar underscored the importance of consolidating Nigeria’s longstanding relationship with the UK while exploring new opportunities for economic growth and reaffirming commitments to regional peace and stability.

He noted that discussions during the visit would address Nigeria’s evolving foreign policy and global aspirations at Chatham House, alongside meetings at the House of Commons focusing on economic diversification, investment climate, and digital transformation.

The agenda also includes engagements with key media stakeholders at BBC House in London to highlight Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities and global positioning. Furthermore, Tuggar is set to meet with financial institutions such as JP Morgan and British International Investment (BII) to attract capital flows, promote investment opportunities, and strengthen Nigeria’s financial sector.

The visit aims to deepen cooperation on security and intelligence-sharing to combat extremism and address instability in West Africa. Additionally, it seeks to enhance collaboration in education and technology between Nigerian and UK academic institutions.
