Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has hinted that the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) will soon begin local production of ammunition for the country’s military.

This marks a significant shift in Nigeria’s defense strategy, aiming to reduce reliance on foreign arms suppliers. The announcement came during a courtesy visit by the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Architect Sonny Echono.

General Musa highlighted the difficulties Nigeria has faced in acquiring essential military equipment from foreign nations, stating that some countries have refused to sell arms to Nigeria.

In another development , President Bola Tinubu has taken steps to empower DICON to ramp up domestic production of military hardware. General Musa lauded the president for his decisive leadership, stating that this initiative would not only strengthen Nigeria’s defence capacity, but also foster self-reliance in the military sector.
