The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it intercepted different quantities of cocaine and opioids, including tramadol, pentazocine injection, morphine sulphate, and ketamine injection, among others, concealed in the soles of shoes, clothing, and other items being shipped to the United States, United Kingdom, and Cyprus.

NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement on Sunday that while 250 grammes of cocaine bound for Cyprus was hidden in the soles of custom-made shoes, officers from the Directorate of Operations and General Investigations (DOGI) discovered over five kilogrammes of opioids bound for the US and UK in clothes and other household items intended to be shipped through some courier firms in Lagos.

“In the same vein, a consignment of 440 grams of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis coming from Canada to Lagos was equally intercepted by operatives in one of the logistic companies,” Babafemi further disclosed.

Meanwhile, after solid intelligence, NDLEA agents in Edo State intercepted a car bearing the registration number Abuja GWA 273 DD at the Ewu junction in Esan Central LGA last Wednesday.

The luggage of one of the occupants, Aminu Abdullahi, 32, was inspected and discovered to contain custard containers with 3,000 tramadol 225mg pills buried in the custard powder.

According to his statement, the suspect purchased the drugs in Onitsha, Anambra State, and was transporting them to the Mararaba area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, for sale.

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), noted that the agency's drug supply reduction efforts balanced with WADA sensitization activities and commended the officers and men of the various Commands as well for the arrests and seizures. He charged them and their compatriots throughout the nation to maintain the current tempo.
