

A drug lord on the wanted list of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Joachin Chikaodi Mbonu, has been apprehended.

A statement by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi noted that Mbonu, 42, was apprehended by NDLEA personnel along with his partner Kenneth Chibuike Ofoegbu, 34, in his country home mansion in Imo State on July 5.
It affirmed that Mbonu is a member of a drug cartel incharge of producing methamphetamine.
The cartel, situated in Imo and Rivers states, became a focus of the agency following intelligence indicating that it was in charge of the distribution of substantial quantities of methamphetamine in the south-east, south-south, and other parts of the country.
Babafemi said that after weeks observation, officers of a special operations unit of NDLEA tracked Mbonu to his mansion in Imo State on July 5, where he was arrested with his colleague, Kenneth Chibuike Ofoegbu, 34, with different quantities of methamphetamine, its precursor chemicals, a pump action gun, and cartridges recovered.
“Items recovered from the house are 419.99 grammes of methamphetamine; 750 grammes of iodine, a precursor chemical for meth; 500 grammes of sodium bicarbonate; two electronic weighing scales; a precursor chemical for meth; and a pump action gun with four cartridges.
