Idris Okuneye popularly known as Bobrisky, is set to be released from Kirikiri Correctional Centre on August 5, 2024, after serving a six-month sentence for naira abuse.

This information was confirmed by his attorney, Ayo Olumofin and a reliable source within the prison system.

Olumofin stated, "Yes, it’s about that time for him to be released," although he mentioned he might not attend the release due to prior commitments outside Lagos.

Bobrisky was sentenced on April 12, 2024, by Justice Abimbola Awogboro, who has since been appointed to the Court of Appeal.

His conviction stemmed from charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) related to the improper handling of naira notes during social events. Despite filing an appeal against his conviction, it is unlikely that it will be heard before his release date.

The EFCC accused Bobrisky of spraying naira notes at various events, including a significant incident on March 24, 2024, at IMAX Circle Mall in Lekki, where he allegedly tampered with N400,000.

Additional charges included similar actions involving N50,000 and N20,000 at different events in 2023 which violated Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

During the court proceedings, Bobrisky admitted to understanding the charges and pleaded guilty.
