N’ State Gov to Mark 100 Days in Office with Green Economy Summit

The Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago, has reveals of plans to host the first ever Green Economy Summit in a bid to mark his 100 days in office. 

Bago while speaking at the launch of the initiative in Minna, said the aim is geared towards boosting green growth and climate change adaptability in the state.

He promised to unlock potential of green investments, revolutionise the economy and improve lives and livelihoods of citizens. The governor, who had created a committee to develop a blueprint and an implementation framework for the project, demanded modalities that would enable the state to leverage its carbon credentials to spur sustainable development.

“I will personally lead the campaign to plant millions of trees across the state to accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Nigeria’s climate change target, as well as African Union Agenda 2063 and the one billion trees for Africa Vision and the Great Green Wall,” he uttered.

Moreover, the committee has Prof. M.T. Usman as chairman.

The group of specialists, at the launch, applauded the governor, promising him of their support.  According to them, the concept is a noble idea that would put the state on radar of global prominence and bestow pride on Nigeria. Dr. Tabi Haman Joda, President of One Billion Trees for Africa and Ambassador of African Union Great Green Wall, also witnessed the event.
