The 37-member tripartite committee on minimum wage, which the Federal Government established, will meet again in the middle of April to hold more discussions and talks over the new minimum wage which President Bola Tinubu is anticipated to announce on May 1, 2024.`

The information was disclosed by Hakeem Ambali, the National Treasurer of the Nigeria Labour Congress and a member of the tripartite committee in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Sunday.

Ambali mentioned that the reports from the zonal public hearings are still being compiled and evaluated by the committee members.

The committee was presented with the results of zonal public hearings that took place from March 27, 2024, to March 28, 2024, in each of the country's six geopolitical zones.

It is anticipated that the minimum wage, which will be announced, will mitigate the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies as many zones made varying minimum wage suggestions at the public meetings.

When questioned about the scheduled date of the committee's upcoming meeting he said, "Mid-April,".

The 37-member panel was assembled by Tinubu through Vice President Kashim Shettima on January 30, 2024, at the State House in Abuja's Council Chamber.

The group, whose members include individuals from organized labour, the corporate sector, and the federal and state governments, is tasked with proposing a new national minimum wage for the nation.

The existing N30,000 minimum salary expires at the end of March 2024, therefore Shettima encouraged members to "speedily" arrive at a decision and submit their findings early.

According to Shettima, this timely submission is essential to guarantee the establishment of a new minimum wage.
