Federal civil servants across 12 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) are likely to experience salary delays from October to December 2024.
This situation arises from the depletion of personnel cost budgets following the recent approval of a new minimum wage, as reported by The PUNCH.
A notice issued on October 22, 2024, by the Director of Finance for the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Jack Odeh, detailed that the delays stem from the payment of a 40% CONPSS Peculiar Allowance, which was not accounted for in the 2024 budget.
The circular titled “Notice of Delay in October 2024 Salary” indicated that personnel costs for the affected months will be supplemented from the Service Wide Vote, leading to a slight delay in salary disbursement.
Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, confirmed that only 12 MDAs are affected but did not specify which ones. He stated that while some staff have begun receiving their salaries, others are still awaiting payment.
Employees at VON expressed concern over the lack of clarity regarding salary delays, with one staff member noting that although some colleagues received their payments, others had not.
Mokwa reassured that the issue has been addressed and that affected civil servants would begin receiving their salaries promptly. "That issue is already solved," he stated. "For this month, any ministry that hasn’t got will get it from today. They will be paid." He dismissed claims that salary delays would extend through the end of the year.
