The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has denied rumours of a temporary Army Chief appointment stating that there is no such appointment within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
This was made known in a press release by Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, the Acting Director of Defence Information, on Monday, October 21, 2024, in Abuja.
Gusau declared that no such appointment occurred in the Armed Forces of Nigeria, stating that the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, had a brief conversation with the COAS some minutes ago.
He noted that the Chief of Army Staff is currently on vacation as part of his 2024 annual leave.
He emphasized that the armed forces operated professionally, stating that all the service chiefs were performing their duties as mandated by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Gusau explained that Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Ibrahim, the Chief of Policy and Plans, was providing routine briefs to the COAS in line with standard military processes.
“The DHQ charged people circulating false rumours to cease doing so immediately.
“The Chief of Army Staff is healthy and will soon resume normal duties after his leave.
“Media outfits are urged to confirm news with the relevant authorities before releasing false information to the public,” he added.
