Christ Mitots School in Ikorodu, Lagos, has announced the indefinite suspension of teacher Stella Nwadigo following the emergence of a disturbing video showing her physically assaulting a three-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael, during a numeracy lesson.

The footage, which went viral on social media, depicts Nwadigo violently smacking the child for struggling with the lesson, triggering widespread outrage and leading to her arrest on Wednesday.

In an official statement, the school condemned Nwadigo's actions as "unacceptable" and assured the public that she would remain suspended while an investigation is underway.

The management expressed their shock at the incident, emphasizing their commitment to fostering a culture of respect and care within the institution. They stated, "Such actions will not be tolerated," and reiterated their zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct.

The school has reached out to Michael's family to apologize and provide support during this distressing time.

Additionally, they are implementing mandatory training sessions for teachers to reinforce child protection protocols and promote positive disciplinary practices. To further ensure accountability, the school has introduced a confidential whistle-blowing system for reporting inappropriate behavior.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has confirmed Nwadigo's arrest and is conducting an investigation into the matter.
