The Lagos State Police Command has reported that suspected motorcyclists, known as Okada riders are believed to have been involved in an attack on a BRT bus in the Orile area on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin shared this information during an interview with journalists on Friday. He clarified that the incident was not an armed robbery but a reaction from the motorcyclists following the seizure of their motorcycles.

Hundeyin explained that the Lagos State Taskforce on Environment and Special Offences Enforcement Unit had recently conducted a raid targeting commercial motorcyclists operating on BRT lanes and other restricted roads which led to the confiscation of several motorcycles. He noted that some motorcyclists resisted the police during this operation and were subsequently arrested.

In the aftermath, Hundeyin stated that the agitated motorcyclists organized a protest, and the nearest government facility they encountered was the BRT bus. They forced the driver to stop and vandalized the bus, as he felt unsafe continuing to drive through the crowd.

Although there were reports of potential robbery on the bus, no passengers have come forward to file complaints with the police.
