Kwara Church Attack: Gunmen Abduct Worshippers, 3 Rescued
A joint security team was said to have rescued three of the abducted victims.
According to reports by journalists, the attack took place during Sunday morning service in the church, causing fear among worshippers and residents.
A source informed newsmen that the assailants raided the church premises and kidnapped several worshippers before security personnel intervened.
An anonymous source from the Kwara South Joint Security Watch reported that the bandits abducted about seven people, though further details were not provided.
Confirming the news, the state Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, stated that security operatives have safely rescued three victims while efforts are ongoing to secure the release of others in captivity.
She praised the swift and joint efforts of the security forces, forest guards, and local vigilantes, which led to the rescue of three of the abducted victims and helped to repel the attackers.
The commissioner noted that the government had instructed security agencies to intensify efforts to arrest the perpetrators and ensure the safe return of the remaining victims.
Olukoju also condemned the targeting of a religious centre, stating the act is cowardly and unacceptable.
She encouraged the residents to support ongoing security efforts by remaining vigilant and cooperating with authorities.
“We urge community members to continue to collaborate with security agencies, forest guards, and local vigilantes to bring an end to this menace and safeguard our communities,” Olukoju said.
