Kebbi State Governor Proposes Free Meals Plan for Ramadan

After the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded re-run election held in the two LGAs of Kebbi state, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi has vowed to identify one Mosque in each Local Government Area (LGA) of the state to offer free meals during the holy month of Ramadan.

This pledge was made on Monday after he received people from Arewa and Dandi local government areas, who paid him a "thank you" visit.

As reported by The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the re-run election on Saturday, February 3, witnessed the APC reclaiming the seat in the Arewa/Dandi federal constituency with a slight margin.

Governor Idris stated that the purpose of the Ramadan feeding was to earn reward from God Almighty, while also meeting the needs and desires of the people, particularly those who are less fortunate in society.

In order to guarantee that individuals appointed have been useful to their community, he also promised not to appoint persons who have not done anything for their community, stating: "before we give anybody a position, we must find out what he/she has done for his people."

The governor made it clear that the state government, under his watch, would not allow the imposition of candidates on the electorate. He assured that he would ensure the people have the freedom to elect candidates of their choice, promoting democratic governance.

Idris also pledged to spread developmental projects across the state, emphasizing that the essence of democracy is to execute projects and empower the people.

He promised to renovate residences of District Heads by allocating money directly to the royal fathers, allowing them to execute the projects themselves to their tastes.

The visit of the governor and his wife to the area earlier was attributed by Shikon Kamba, Alhaji Mamuda Zarumai, who is also District Head of the area, and one of the APC chieftains, Alhaji Hussani Kangiwa, as the reason for the party's victory.

While assuring the governor that they lacked words to qualify their happiness, they expressed their gratitude for his gigantic efforts which led to the party's victory, as they gathered in the government house.

In addition, the elected member representing Arewa/Dandi federal constituency, retired Colonel Garba Rabi’u-Kamba, also expressed his gratitude to the governor and pledged to deliver quality representation.
