Residents of Ikire in Irewole Local Government Area, Osun State, celebrated on Sunday as Senator Lere Oyewumi, Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, commenced the long-anticipated asphalt laying of the Oke-Ola/Anajere/Ile-Sagba Oluofinrin Road.

The project, which addresses a long-standing need, is expected to significantly enhance transportation and economic opportunities in the area.

“We are overjoyed to finally see this road being paved,” said Mrs. Adeola Adebayo, a resident of Oke-Ola. “For years, the road’s poor condition has made movement difficult, especially during the rainy season, and the dust during the dry season was unbearable. Senator Oyewumi has truly answered our prayers.”

Another resident, Mr. Hammed Abayomi, praised the quality of the construction, highlighting the durable drainage system and thick asphalt designed to handle heavy-duty vehicles. He expressed optimism that the road would provide lasting relief to the community.

Commercial motorcyclist Emmanuel recounted the dangers posed by the road before the upgrade, including frequent accidents during the rainy season due to slippery surfaces.

Residents like Mrs. Abidemi Oyetola believe the road will revive the community’s economy. “This development has restored our faith in the government. It will attract businesses and encourage shop owners who left to return,” she said.

Mrs. Sina Kikelomo, a shop owner, shared how prolonged exposure to road dust once affected her health. She described the ongoing project as a transformative step for the area.

Speaking at the event, Senator Oyewumi reaffirmed his dedication to community development. “This road is a testament to our commitment to improving the lives of our people. Infrastructure investments like this are vital for a brighter future in Ikire,” he said.

The asphalt laying of the Oke-Ola/Anajere/Ile-Sagba Oluofinrin Road underscores Senator Oyewumi’s resolve to deliver meaningful change to his constituents in Ikire.
