In a move to bolster security and stimulate local employment, the Jigawa State Government has approved the recruitment of 9,970 security guards to safeguard public facilities throughout the state.

The approval, which followed recommendations from the Committee on the Safety of Schools, Health Institutions, and Courts, was announced by Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Sagir Ahmed, after a State Executive Council meeting.

The initiative seeks to implement preventive security measures across primary and secondary schools, courts, primary health centers, and general hospitals. By engaging local private security firms to recruit youths from their own communities, the government aims to enhance security and foster a sense of responsibility among residents.

In related news, the state government has also granted a waiver of N112.01 million to 335 victims of the 2024 floods participating in the Jigawa State Rice Millionaire Project. This waiver is intended to alleviate the financial strain on affected farmers by covering the costs of essential agricultural inputs and labor.
